Portraits of the new boys

Took a couple of portraits while Dundee’s transfer deadline signings spoke to the press – one lit by flash and one not.

First up is striker Rhys Healey who is on loan at Dens from Cardiff City.

What’s the story?

No matter what you’re photographing the secret is to find the story, even if your subject is something as simple as football. Steven Milne - Aberdeen

Dundee's Steven Milne challenges Aberdeen keeper Jason Brown during Aberdeen v Dundee, Scottish Communities League Cup at Pittodrie, Milne was booked for the challengeI

I didn’t have the best of nights while shooting Aberdeen v Dundee in the Scottish Communities League Cup at Pittodrie, I was shooting Dundee attacking and most of the chances happened at the other end – as I was photographing the match for two papers in Dundee changing ends wasn’t really an option.

Then I got lucky with this picture – I like it a lot, though I’m pretty sure Aberdeen keeper Jason Brown wouldn’t agree.

I was pleased to see it used back page, above the fold and big, in the Evening Telegraph this afternoon.

scottish gaelic football final

Shot Dundee Dalriada v Dunedin Connollys, Scottish Gaelic Football Championship Final at Dawson Park in Dundee. Dunedin won by some margin, but it’s a fun sport to shoot – and I noticed that nobody says “Fuck” with the same emphasis as an Irishman when things aren’t going quite to plan. All pics shot with 300mm F4L, aperture priority at ISO800
